Since we didn’t meet as a big group last week, we weren’t able to announce this month’s climate champion. The prize goes to Rodica who has found creative ways to clean taps with vinegar and reuse supplies to cut down on use of harsh chemicals. Yay, Rodica!
Thanks to everyone for sharing feedback on the recent surveys. Recycling initiatives have been well received and moving forward we are going to focus on the UN’s Call to Action for a Healthy Planet.
Some quick background:
The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established in November 1988.
In March 1994, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was established.
The first COP (Conference of the Parties) was held in Berlin in 1995 and parties meet annually.
At the 3rd COP in Dec 1997, the Kyoto Protocol was adopted which is the world’s first greenhouse gas emissions reduction treaty.
In Dec 2015, at COP 21, the Paris Agreement was signed, and 195 nations have agreed to work together to combat climate change.
The UN has outlined actions we can all take to protect our environment, slow down the effects of climate change, and reduce our environmental impact.
