REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE (6 month contract position starting January 2019 – 22.5 hours per week)

As a member of the team, the Registered Practical Nurse provides clinical care and clinical administrative functions to support the delivery of high quality patient centered primary care in the NPLC setting. The individual also participates in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs and services for clients, their supports and the community.


  • Graduate of a registered practical nursing program from a recognized institution
  • Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • One to three years nursing experience, preferably in a community setting
  • Experience in program development, implementation ,monitoring and evaluation
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, electronic medical records  and various software application
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written communication and skill in challenging interactions
  • Proven expertise in both teamwork  and independent functions
  • Welcoming of change and innovative in change management
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence
  • Open and nonjudgmental
  • Desire and ability to update knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to deal effectively with multiple and complex work demands accurately, effectively and efficiently
  • Second language an asset



  • Assess and treat patients within scope of practice
  • Document patient care according to standards of practice and organization policy
  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate programs in collaboration with other clinic staff
  • Support the delivery of patient care in collaboration with other providers by completing components of physical assessment and client education including :
    • Physicals
    • Well baby visits and assist with immunizations
    • New patient intake
    • Wound care
    • Immunization
    • Pre & Post Natal health teaching including breastfeeding & formula feeding education
    • BP monitoring
    • Ear flushing
    • Patient phone calls
    • Urine specimens collection and testing
    • Blood glucose monitoring
    • INR monitoring
    • Triage same day appointments
    • Cryotherapy
    • Home visits
  • Manage clinical inventory in collaboration with Administrative staff and Pharmacist including;  medication and exam room supplies, resource materials and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety  and infection control standards including personal protective equipment, equipment sterilization ,biomedical waste, health & safety inspections and pandemic planning
  • Participate in the quality management program
  • Participate in committees and other special projects as required
  • Demonstrate flexibility in the completion of work assignments
  • Display a consistent professional manner and willingness to collaborate with other staff
  • Model the values of the Waterloo Region NP Led Clinic.
